Saving Money on Moab Rafting

Deals and specials.

The short answer

The reliable savings on Moab rafting are structural, not promotional. Shoulder season, midweek departures, group size and picking the right trip length save far more than any discount code. Between them they can cut a family's cost by a third.

When outfitters run genuine offers we list them below. When they are not, we say so rather than inventing urgency. Everything on this page works whether or not there is a promotion running.

No promotions running at the moment

We are not aware of any outfitter promotions on Moab rafting trips as this page was last reviewed. Rather than list expired offers or manufacture a sense of urgency, we would rather tell you plainly and point you at the savings that are always available.

The structural savings below are worth considerably more than most promotional discounts anyway. Start with shoulder season pricing.

Outfitters set and withdraw their own offers without notice. Always confirm the terms directly with the operator before booking.

Always Available

Five ways to pay less.

None of these depend on a promotion. They are how Moab rafting is priced, and knowing them is worth more than any coupon.

1. Go in shoulder season

April, May, September and October are cheaper than midsummer across most operators, and September and October are arguably the best months to be on the river anyway. Cooler air, better light, far fewer people.

2. Go midweek

Tuesday to Thursday departures are quieter and often cheaper than weekends, particularly in spring and autumn. If your schedule is flexible at all, this is the easiest saving to take.

3. Book as a group

Most outfitters offer group rates from around 8 to 12 guests, and a private charter can work out close to standard pricing once you reach that size. See group and private trips for how this works.

4. Match the trip to the group

The most common way people overspend is booking a full day when a half day suited them better, or booking Cataract when Westwater would have delivered the same thrill for a fraction of the cost.

5. Ask about cancellations

Multi day trips occasionally release spaces when a booking falls through, sometimes at a reduced rate. If your dates are flexible and the trip is sold out, ask to go on the waiting list rather than giving up.

What does not save money

Booking through a third party rarely beats the outfitter's own price, and last minute booking almost never produces a discount on permit capped runs like Westwater or Cataract. Those sell out rather than discount.

Timing

What each month costs you.

Rafting is priced by demand, and demand tracks school holidays and comfortable weather rather than river quality. That gap is where the value sits.

WindowDemand and pricingWhat you actually get
March and AprilLowest. Limited operationsCold water, quiet river, rising flows. Fewest people of the season
May and JuneRising, peaks late JuneThe biggest water of the year. Best whitewater, coldest swims
July and AugustHighest. Book earliestWarm water, hot air, busiest river. Best for families and swimming
September and OctoberFalling steadilyLow clear water, golden light, thin crowds. Many guides' favourite months

If you can move your trip from mid July to late September you will usually pay less, wait less and photograph better. The tradeoff is cooler water, which matters more on trips where swimming is part of the appeal.

Questions

Deals FAQs.

Are there discounts on Moab rafting trips?

Sometimes, though the reliable savings are structural rather than promotional. Shoulder season, midweek departures and group bookings save more than most discount offers. When outfitters do run genuine promotions we list them at the top of this page, and we say plainly when nothing is running.

When is the cheapest time to raft near Moab?

March and April, then September and October. Midsummer is the most expensive because demand peaks with school holidays and warm weather. Late September and October are the best combination of lower pricing and genuinely excellent conditions, with the tradeoff being cooler water.

Is it cheaper to book last minute?

Generally no, and on permit capped runs like Westwater and Cataract it is a bad strategy. Those sell out rather than discount, so waiting usually costs you the trip rather than saving you money. Half day floats are the exception, since availability is better.

Do group bookings get a discount?

Most outfitters offer group rates from around 8 to 12 guests, and above that a private charter can approach standard per person pricing. Exact thresholds vary considerably between operators. See group and private trips for how to approach it.

Do you charge anything to use this site?

No. This is a free comparison guide and we do not take bookings or handle payment. Your reservation is with the outfitter directly at their own price. See the disclosure page for how the site is funded.
