Common Questions

Group Rafting FAQs

Planning a group trip raises a lot of questions. Here are the most common ones — and if yours isn't here, reach out directly.

What is the minimum group size for a group booking?

Group bookings require a minimum of 10 participants. For smaller groups of 6–9, you're welcome to join one of our regularly scheduled tours and we can often arrange to have your group on the same boats. Contact us to discuss options for your specific group size.

What rivers are available for group tours near Moab?

The Colorado River is by far the most popular for groups, offering everything from scenic half-day floats to multi-day expeditions. The Green River is ideal for wilderness multi-day trips, and the San Juan River offers a calmer cultural experience. For big whitewater, Westwater Canyon and Cataract Canyon are within easy reach of Moab.

Are there age or fitness requirements for group rafting?

Requirements vary by trip. Our mellow Colorado River floats like the Moab Daily and Fisher Towers are suitable for most ages (8+) and fitness levels. More technical trips like Westwater Canyon have a minimum age of 12 and require participants to be comfortable in moving water. We'll match your group to the right trip during the inquiry process.

How far in advance should we book a group trip?

We recommend booking 4–6 weeks in advance for summer season (May–September) group trips, and 2–4 weeks in advance for spring and fall. Popular weekend dates fill quickly, especially for large groups requiring multiple rafts. Multi-day permit-based trips like Cataract Canyon and Desolation Canyon should be booked 3–6 months in advance.

What is included in a group rafting package?

All group packages include professional licensed guides, all safety equipment (life jackets, helmets on whitewater trips, dry bags), and shuttle transportation to and from the river. Full-day and multi-day trips include riverside meals. Photography packages, team-building facilitation, and gear rentals (wetsuits, paddling jackets) are available as add-ons. Check our what to bring page for personal gear recommendations.

Do you offer group discounts?

Yes — groups of 10 or more receive preferred pricing, and the discount increases with group size. Non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and returning group clients receive additional rate consideration. Check our current specials page for seasonal group promotions, or contact us for a custom group quote.

What is the cancellation policy for group bookings?

Group bookings cancelled 14 or more days before the trip date receive a full refund of the deposit. Cancellations within 14 days are subject to a 50% fee. We strongly recommend trip insurance for large groups. Please review our full cancellation and refund policies before booking.

Can we split a large group into multiple experience levels?

Absolutely. This is one of our most common requests for family reunions and corporate retreats. We can run parallel trips at the same time — for example, an adventure group running Westwater Canyon while a family-friendly group floats the scenic Fisher Towers section. Both groups meet at the same endpoint for a shared meal and celebration.
